Dear Merici Community,
I am very privileged and proud to be appointed as the Chair of the Merici Board for 2007. This year marks a key turning point in the
College's governance, with the decision to amalgamate the Parents and Friends Association under the auspices of the school board. This
innovation provides a significant opportunity for the school community to become actively engaged in the ongoing education of our daughters by providing focussed, outcome-based involvement for the P&F at the direction of the Board. As the P&F Chair, Trevor Jones is Deputy Chair of the Board. This new structure empowers the Board and the P&F to tackle those issues where the wider Merici community can provide tangible benefits to the College.
The Board is focussed on achieving some key outcomes this year under the guiding principle of "Building Community". My fondest memories of my schooling years were my parents’ involvement in the P&F, Board, cooking at school camps, coaching sport and fund raising. Thankfully, fund raising for secondary colleges is a thing of the past, but it did provide a focal point for the "coming together" of the school community for the common goal of raising funds. While I am cognisant that everyday life is already very demanding, I see that filling this community "gap" is a key focal point for the Board's effort in 2007.
To achieve this, the Board, in conjunction with the Principal Catherine Rey and the College’s leadership team, will further develop the strategic plan and the master plan to address the following issues and guide the School to 2013:
The Board is very focussed on achieving outcomes that benefit the education of our most important asset - our daughters. I look forward to your support and valued input. I encourage you to take the plunge and engage with me or any member of the Board in areas that you believe provide benefit to the school and extend the school community, through involvement as a coach, mentor, assistant, inaugural chair of the Alumni or a co-planner. Be involved, the intrinsic rewards are worth it and the School will continue to grow.
