Welcome from the Assistant Principal Students

trazelAt Merici College, we invite you into partnership with us to support your daughters in their growth to full potential during the crucial adolescent years.  Through our formal and informal pastoral care structures and processes we aim to affirm the dignity and worth of each individual student and to provide a sense of security and well-being as a member of a caring, Christian community. We strive to develop in students resilience, self awareness, emotional maturity and self control.  A Merici student should display generosity of spirit and be prepared to reach out to others in the school and wider community.  As a Catholic school, we believe that Christ-centred relationships are the foundation on which all our work is based and so we encourage all to develop relationships of care and support which are characterised by compassion, tolerance and reconciliation.

Welcome from the College Captains

We are at the beginning of a brand new school year, and with each New Year comes a new theme. Our theme for 2008, ‘Truth and Love in Action’ is a very powerful theme, as it relates directly to each and every member of the Merici community.
Truth and love is ever present in the Merici community, but this year we would like to take one step further, and consistently act on this theme.

We know that even the smallest action can make a difference. The simple act of smiling can brighten up someone’s day in an instant, and can quickly spread among a whole class, or even around a whole school.

Putting truth and love into action, although it seems like a huge concept, is similar to smiling. If it begins with us, it can quickly spread into our Merici community and out into our world. So, this year, let’s firstly be truthful about who we are, and love and value ourselves.

From there, it’s easy to show love for our friends and family and communicate truthfully with others. And eventually, it will continue to spread into our world, where we, simply by acting in honesty and love, can set an example for others to follow.

So our challenge this year as a Merici Team is the action part of our theme. Our theme isn’t just a theme, but our goal and focus for the year. At the end of each month this year, lets reflect. It can be while we’re having a shower, riding on the bus or lying in bed. Wherever it may be, lets find the time to look over the past few weeks; at the choices we’ve made and the conversations we’ve had, and ask ourselves, can I be truly proud of the person I was last month? Have I lead in a way that would inspire others? Once we are aware and once we are able to realise exactly where we can improve, let’s spend the following month committing ourselves to strengthening and beautifying that particular aspect of our lives.

After twelve months, we should be able to say to ourselves that we have made the effort, we have ‘walked the talk’, and have become far greater beings because of that. The few years that we have left at school is the perfect time to become that person each of us deeply desires to be. And that is simply, our best self.
